So there's a new seakayak now in the inventory. Instead of the Necky "Eskia", I tried out this new Current Designs "Storm" model. Very much like the Eskia. A little lighter, sleeker and pointier, but still a big flat-bottom and bulky tank. The color is white which is a little off-key but still it glides just a bit faster than the Eskia.
Dad's looking into buying the Wilderness Systems "Pamlico 145"
model because of the 2-and-1 component, slim bottom. Doesn't look like anything else
special to me. Alone, I would just use the rowing shell. More serves
the purpose for a two-person day out on the pond/lake with the family
and visiting friends.
Today's course: 21.04 miles in 4 hours and 27 minutes. Conditions: Dark fog, cold stormy rain, and waves entire day.
Chan Marshall is such a MILF... I guess her music is pretty good too. :)
I have been on somewhat of a long-term hiatus from reading. With school entering finals, plus the extra hours spent at work, it was much easier to let off and allow time to slip by. Given that I had so little free time as it was, that was fine. However, once break finally came around and once I got back to reading Charles Frazier's Thirteen Moons, I just wanted to do anything but keep my head buried in a book. Oh well...
Mostly the deal has been eat, sleep, music, kayak, and....... repeat...... the last five days or so. Oh well... it sure is nice to finally get a break. Being on a strange schedule where I don't have to get up with an alarm clock has really messed with my sleep pattern, though. I couldn't fall asleep until 8:00 AM. Of course that meant waking up again today around an hour after noon. Got back from some light kayaking about an hour and a half ago. Rainy and overcast again today in Seattle so the best type of weather to be out there. Yesterday's bout was a semi-hardcore paddle... I'm still waiting for when the weather gets really bad and the waves build up. The Necky Eskia (or "Greeny 56") is pretty nice right now but she's totally terrible when it comes to speed, she's just a standard, big, round, durable beast. I have been timing myself every time I go out now and I think that before school's out and I return back to Maine that I'll devote a day to kayaking all of Lake Washington. It should take me anywhere form 6 to 8 hours, I think. Got interested in doing it sooner than later after listening to RTE:Ireland's podcast program "Big Adventure" that featured the first female sea paddler to navigate around the Irish coastline (in 40 days.) To me that seems like far more of an escapade than a ticket around the world. I don't know why... (Photo below courtesy of Necky)
My Father's cousin (therefore my cousin, too [that's the way it is with Irish Catholic families]) is in Seattle for the week, so made a reservation to eat downtown. Seafood............... I'm already hungry. It is a short time with roast beef and peanut butter sandwiches before the world begins to look very bleak and colorless, indeed. Been making use of the home recipes and cooking up some simple things lately but even those are limited. Probably experiment a little more within time. I'm famished.
